! Great to have you with us! I don't have much advice on bear-proofing a coop. I can't even imagine having to contend with something like that!

You might post over in the Predators thread below for more advice. Good luck to you and your flock!!

Hello and welcome to BYC

So sorry to hear about your loss!

Electric fencing - place bacon strips on the wires (while inactivated) so that the bear conracts the hot wire with his nose or mouth. Welcome to BYC and good luck at thwarting/educating the bear.

Gee I'd be afraid of what happens when bears, etc. run out of chickens - what do they go for next. Are you allowed to use guns for protection where you live?

Hello, we think the bear came for the apple tree and the chicken feed. we are pretty sure it was mt lion or bobcats cubs that ate the chickens but still not sure. the fish and game trapper has to be able to tell what it was to give you permission to kill it bc of loss of live stock then you take that form to local police dept so you can have the right to fire a weapon in town. but the large cats are protected. about four weeks before we loss our girls. the local police shot and killed a large mt lion a few blocks behind us. so we are thinking maybe her cubs were here and hungry. My plans is to run elefence along the top and the bottom of the coop and run. and a sec cam just so we can what it is. but that you
