Fall is in the air, and before we know it the leaves of color will have blown away! I decided to join in with you chicken folks to learn something about chickendom! I am in the process of getting a awesome chicken coop to place near my garden and making a run for them ....THEM means the four Polish chickens named Kramer, Ziggy, Stella and Einstein! I was never overtly fond of chickens growing up but these dudettes and dude just crack me up and needless to say provide me hours of comic relief from the stress of farming and hauling mail. I enjoy them about as much as my LowLine Angus and Highlands I raise for grassfed beefs. I would like to add some Speckled Sussex Bantams or just the Speckled Sussex eventually so wish to learn more about them before I add more to my wee flock family! And maybe a Frizzled Polish Bantam one of these days to spice up the crowd in the coop! So there ya have it from northern Wisconsin, and wishing to learn more about surviving the winter with chickens as my inspector does not want chickens in the dairy barn! Hence the garden/chicken coop project before the snow arrives....insight on wintering them desired.

if you go to "where am I, where are you," in the social forum you can locate and post on your state thread. Hopefully you will be able to connect with people in your locale who know just what is needed to survive your winter climate.
