I am so excited start raising chickens. I am in central texas and have quite the sticky situation. My landlord does not allow pets of any kind at all. However there is a nice abandoned house with a lot of land not in use. I have permission by the land owner to use it. The people there left a rather nice chicken setup I plan on tweaking to suit me better. However being a newbie I dont want to lose chickens with trial and error. So i have some questions to entertain my restless and excited brain.nhowdo I keep these guys cool durring summer? Im not worried about winter so much.
What do they eat/what should I feed them?
What do I put in boxes for laying?
Anything else should know? Thanks in advance

yep, you got the knack of starting new threads. hard part is figuring out which of the duplicates have meaningful answers

I think the best start is to check out the "learning center tabs" on here - its just packed full of information. Everyone has a different opinion on the best feed, nesting material etc. Do what works best for you & your upcoming flock. Make sure they have shade, food & fresh water - they should be fine. They do worse in drafty wet environments. Make sure you predator proof your coop/run.
Best of luck

to keep them cool, give them some wooden shade and regular supply of fresh water. its recommended to give at least twice a day and the chicks must have access to water all the time.
