Hello all! New to chickens and new help

Thanks everyone for your help. I guess I should clarify. I took my sisters 3 older hens and then I got 6 baby chicks back in April. Some of them have started laying this week, one of them is the coughing hen-her name is Dale- her sister is Chip and they are both Ameraucana chickens and so funny. The coughing is new, but she is healthy and acts fine- just sounds like she s like she swallowed a hairball- I will add protein to the hens and check the links you suggested

Greetings from Texas! Even though we've been around chickens for several years now, when they start molting we always wonder what's wrong before we remember about molting. And as others have already said, some of them look pretty pathetic. I've noticed that the girls help each other go through this process by pulling out each other's feathers. Good luok with your sick chick.
 
Thats good to know- I thought they were hurting her. But I never saw any blood or them full on pecking at her. Just kind of pulling on her feathers
