Glad you could join BYC! Congratulations on your new chicks. Hope they bring you much enjoyment and turn into beautiful hens. What breeds did you get?

I suggest taking a look at the Learning Center articles on raising chicks:Hatching Eggs And Raising Chicks Good luck with your flock! Please feel free to ask any questions you may have.

Hi lb4paws
I'm new here too although been reading a lot from these blogs/info.
We have had 5 hens from POL, hybrids but all different. We then, after 18 months of having chickens for first time, planned to incubate hatching eggs and hatch them over Easter when our kids and grandchildren would be here. Out of 16 eggs 3 were infertile, 10 hatched successfully and weirdly 3 of the same breed, cream legbars grew but died before pipping. Am trying to talk to farmer we bought them from.
Now we have 2 barneve lder bantams, beautiful brown markings, 4 Wheaton marans, gorgeous yellow chicks and 4 exchequer leghorns.
We have em in the house in boxes with Brinsea heater, all seems good but am concerned about how big they will be and whether they will survive in their new coup at end of April as boxes will be too small I reckon!!
We live near London, uk and temperature overnight can go down to 7 deg C at the moment.

Be good to hear from others about the chicks. Our hens are good and enjoy the sunshine when it comes :) we have separate runs for the 2 flocks and do wonder whether they will mix!

Thanks for all info here. Wondering if there any UK members?

We got 5 different ones.....a Buff Orpington, a silver-laced Wyandotte, a California White, an Americauna, and a Black Sex Link. The orpington, wyandotte and americauna were born (hatched) on April 1st. The other two are 2 days older. We've been talking/thinking about it for a couple years and decided to take the plunge. I thought we were ready but now I feel a little unprepared.....LOL.

So far so good, i think. No pasty butts. They are active and eating. Someone does seem to have a little diarrhea.....is that anything to worry about? So far they are just on medicated starter feed and nothing else. (well, water, of course)
