My name is Jan and I live in northern Indiana. I've had chickens for many years but recently got rid of them. Now I am sad..still look out daily to see if they are in the yard. I miss the noise and the quiet "talking" they do. So, I am ready to do it again. We always had so many eggs, we gave them to neighbors :) I am not o much interested in egg laying ability as I am getting the ones I want. So far, I can't find them. I would love to have a rooster and 2 or 3 hens that are silkies. I fell in love with that breed. Any color but would have to be able to ship. (the feather legged and muffed) I am disabled and don't drive. The other breed is a rooster w/ a couple of hens that are crevecours. I have looked for 3 years for them now. Sold out usually.

If any of you good people can help me to find or purchase these, I will be in your debt.

A word of advice, silkies are extremely difficult to sex at an early age. Generally they cannot be sexed with any accuracy before 4-5 mos. of age, and sometime not till they crow or lay eggs.

IF you only want pullets, it would be best to buy at point of lay, or a young laying hen. Welcome to BYC.

I found some silkies and even crevecours but it cost more to ship them than to buy them. lol Thank you for the links..gonna be a busy day tomorrow but I will find what I want:)
