Hello Everyone,

I am new to BYC! I have learned so much information about chickens on here that I don't know why I didn't become a member sooner! Anyways, a little about me and my flock. My family and I live in the country and I work at a local farm supply store. We have horses and ducks but recently just welcomed 16 different chicks into our family! We have:

5- Black Australorp ranging from 1 to 3 weeks old
4- Buff Orpington ranging from 1 to 3 weeks old
5- Cornish Cross (just received them today, guessing 3-4 days old)
2- Australorp and Orpington mixes 3-4 weeks old (one is a roo)
 
You have some nice breeds. Do you know Cornish x are meat birds - not layers? Sometimes people at the feed stores, fail to mention that. Then the folks, especially their kids are very unhappy to learn the birds must be slaughtered young, or they will die soon enough of heart attacks or stroke.

Yes I know Cornish X are meat birds! I have friends that have had them and I wanted to get some myself, I've done a lot of research on the breed! My girls know which ones are meat birds and layers so there won't be any disappointments lol thank you for the info, you are right, most people don't know!
 
Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. Black Australorps and Buff Orpingtons are both wonderful breeds; very hardy, calm and gentle (our children and granddaughter made lap pets of both breeds), and good layers of large, brown eggs (Australorps are exceptional layers).
