Hello everyone! My first post! It's a big night for me, my three little hens will spend their first night outside.. I must say I'm a little nervous for them but from what I've read they are pretty resilient little gals! I live in San Diego so not that worried about cold temp.. think the low is going to be 52.

Welcome!

That is exciting, although I can image how nervous you must be. They won’t look back once they settle into their big girl house

How old are they? Are they fully feathered? After doing the conversion to Celcius, something I understand

[11C], if they are fully feathered and their coop is well ventilated and free of drafts, they should be fine.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends

Hi califrame and
welcome-byc.gif

The first night my chicks spent outside I was awake all night worrying about every little sound, and up at first light to check that they were ok. It's been 2 months now and they're all still fine. I'm sure yours will do fine too, and they'll love it out there.

They are about 7 weeks old, fully featured, I trained them pretty good to go up in the roost so they took right to that! They are in there now all hurled up. Coop is pretty good, not that drafty.

Aaaw, big night for all concerned ... do try and get some sleep and to not worry too much .. they will be very happy to see you in the morning and have lots to tell you about their first night 'camping'

Well, how did the first night out in the coop go for you and the little girls?

First night was good! I came down this morning and they were all huddled in the coop ready for breakfast. It rained for a few hours while I was at work so I had to worry about them all over but they seemed just fine when I got home. Changed out the wet pine shavings and all is well again!
