Hi, I've come to BYC many times by just googling questions and I finally joined. I work for animal control and I have many many pets, but my beloved chickens are my favorites (don't tell my dogs that, lol!). I have had chickens since I was around 15 or so but I'm getting into raising them on my own, as well as ducks. I have a jersey giant hen (Martina) that I hand raised, a rescue leghorn hen (Candi) who I adopted from a rescue group (she came from an egg farm and has part of her little beak cut off, was kept in inhumane conditions there...) two Americana hens (Lupita and Shelly) and a black Silkie hen (Roberta) - the last three I adopted from my work as they were police impounds.

I also have Dexter (Akita) and Layo (German Shep mix) who are the guardians of my flock. My cats are merely there for my two chocolate Indian Runner ducks "Brooks" and "Dunn" to chase. I am still waiting on them to make eggs.

Anyhow, I really look forward to being a part of this community ^.^

G’Day from down under Heather [IMG] Welcome!

Thank you for an entertaining introduction and a chuckle!

You might want to also pop in and say hello on your local thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/26/where-am-i-where-are-you ‘Find your State’s thread.

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

If you would like to share pictures and stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out [IMG]
