Hey everyone!
EastTexasHen here and getting settled in.

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am and I am not new to chickens. I had a brief stint with a batch of 12 straight run Rhode Island Red chicks about two years ago. I got super lucky and all survived long enough to unluckily mature into roosters. They stuck around for quite some time until a neighbors very determined collie promptly dispatched them all. We are in a new house now and have a new, stronger coop ready and waiting for this next bath of chicks.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
I'm currently waiting to pick up my order of chicks from Ideal Poultry!

(3) What breeds do you have?
I ordered 12 Crested Polish chicks that I am very excited to pick up.

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
I believe I found this group when i was researching care tips for my previous RR :)

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
My other hobbies include leatherworking, horsemanship, reading and planning.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I'm happily married with a beautiful two year old little girl! Shes absolutely wild about animals so Im excited to introduce her to the world of backyard chickens. We have two dogs, a 9 year old miniature schnauzer mix and a 2 year old basset hound, in addition to two horses and one very large red wattle boar named Kitty!

I do hope you enjoy being an active BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

I note you mention you are in East Texas, but if you include your general location on your profile, this will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock when they arrive or other critters, you are in the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Best wishes and good luck!
