Hi there,
I'm very new to quail keeping having just acquired five birds to keep in the backyard for eggs and entertainment. It was a very spur of the moment decision and we're pulling everything together on the fly but thanks to my husband's excellent carpentry we have a lovely little coop. We've gathered most of the supplies we need and are just trying to figure out the ins and outs now.
All five were acquired at around 6ish weeks of age and were supposed to be females. I think I just heard one crowing this morning though so there is that to figure out. Any chance it might be a female just "calling"? I need to investigate their breast feathers a bit closer but the breeder we got them seemed pretty confident they all had the speckling of females. Two are normal wild (Pharaoh?) and three are golden (Italian?).
So there you go. Just introducing myself. Thoughts and advice are welcome!
