In the Brooder
I really am just fed up with most common main stream social media sites and I remember how much I used to love BYC and we all sort of speak the same lingo here (as in chicken lingo lol) so I am excited to figure out how to get back into the swing of things forum wise!! I decided to just copy and paste the intro questions here and answer them as my intro and hopefully add in some pictures too if I can figure that out as well
(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
*Not new, but new AGAIN as in I've only had chickens again now for about 3 years.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Not as many as I'd like. I have five adults two are australorp x Japanese bantam cross hens, and the other three are cochin bantams two splash lemon blues and a blue.
I then have four olive egg layer chicks, 3 coturnix quail chicks, just hatched out some hopefully lemon blue cochin chicks today, waiting on some chocolate cuckoo orpington chicks to hatch here in the next few days as well as call duck and Australian bantam eggs to hatch soon after that. Oh and one mosaic aka Ayem cemani x rir cross sexed link cockerel chick, and a mixed back of growing out cochin bantam chicks from another breeder looks like some cute reds and some other randoms feathering out.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Whoops already listed that above
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love birds for one but I really also love genetics
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
Art, training my working German shepherds, gardening, walking (it is a hobby lol), raising animals in general, homesteading...ya get the gist
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I'll be 36 this year, married, no human kiddos, just a plethora of critters on the small 4 acre farm. I also raise small homesteading pigs for pet and meat, and am doing the same with rabbits and chickens. Call ducks, Australian Spotted Ducks and Cochin Bantams are my main focus in birds all the others are just fun projects and egg and dual purpose birds. I am a stay at homesteading wife and that job does define me because it's exactly the life I chose to live.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I used to be on here but my life has changed so much including marriages haha that I don't even want to nor care to mention my old sn on here and I don't remember or care how to get access back to it
I just really loved this place and it taught me soo much!
I wanted to also add a picture of the possible lemon blue hatchling chicks that hatched today but I have yet to receive the email from myself that the pictures are in haha but I posted the parents, a piglet and I and my call ducklings (they're a little older now but not by much).
