My husband and I purchased 6 chickens on Good Friday, 4 white leghorns and 2 random bantam silkies. My silkies are awesome. They like to play with me and will eat corn and worms right out of our hands. The leghorns are frankly a pain in the arse. They are flighty, aggressive, and sometimes mean. I hope the egg production will be worth the trouble. I have hand raised all of them but the leghorns seem to have forgotten now that they are in the coop. Anyways, more about us. We are trying to build a garden this year so that we can be more self sufficient. I'm disabled and living on one salary is incredibly hard, so we decided to start growing our own food and take some of the burden off of my husband. I am so glad I found this place and I look forward to sharing stories and learning along the way!!!

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Yes, Leghorns can be very flighty. Nearly impossible to catch or work with. But from my experiences, they are very good layers. So hopefully they do become worth the work. The roosters are just crazy too. So hopefully you don't keep any of them. LOL My first experience with roosters as a child was being chased by a mean Leghorn rooster. Something I will never forget! LOL

Make yourself at home here on BYC and if you have any questions, feel free to ask. Welcome to our flock!

Good luck in your new chicken venture!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Good luck with your flock! Silkies are sweet little things, quite different from the Leghorns, but the Leghorns should be great layers and hopefully they will calm down when they get older.
