Good morning I'm new to this but does anyone no why my hen won't jump back up in her coop. I have a red barn coop that sites up on a open cage that is chickin wired and there is a hole in bottom of barn so they can jump in and out. She gos out but at dark she didn't go back in. Any ideas. Thank u.

How big is the hole she is trying to jump back up through? Chickens generally flap their wings when they are trying to jump up. If they bang their wings a couple of times, they will give up.

Not very big. I just thought she got out why can't she get back in but what u said made sense. But I also have a bany rooster that didn't go back in eather. And he is way smaller then the hen. He even buros under her. Why is that. To both questions. Lol

I'm glad you joined our community.

I agree with Enola, the hole may be too small.

If they can just hop up a few inches, you would fine. But, if they have to fly up, they have to have something to grip on with their feet to catch their balance. If they are trying to fly up into the hole they may be having trouble grasping anything to maintain their balance, meanwhile they are banging their flapping wings on the perimeter of the entrance. Also, if there is very little light in the coop, a chicken probably won't want to fly into a dark hole.
