I am a new chicken owner, I adopted 5 lovely Barred Rock hens and a Barred Rock Rooster! I have had them for 3 days and they are kind of skittish but getting better! They are laying eggs though! Me and my daughter visit them multiple times a day with feed in hand to try and get them to trust us, and suggestions anyone else has would be great!!

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Congrats on the new flock! Over time they should calm down and not be so skittish. The best things you can do is avoid picking them up for a few weeks. This is scary for new birds. Talk and move quietly around them. Go sit down on the ground with them with some goodies. When you are on their level, they are more quiet. Spread the goodies out around you and let them come to you. Don't rush them. And sit there for 15 or so minutes with them. Spend as much quiet time with them as you can. Eventually they will come around. At least most of them will. Hopefully you can make a couple of lap sitters out of one or two of them!

Enjoy your new flock and welcome to ours!

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. TwoCrows has given you some good advice. Barred Rocks are a very hardy, dependable breed that will give you lots of large brown eggs. :o) Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your Barred Rocks.
