Hello and Help from Renton

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I got my first chickens in 1997 when my sister moved and her flock needed a new home. I kept them til I moved and was 'chicken-less' for a few years. Now they're baaaaack.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
We have 5 hen and 1 rooster (Kasper the friendly rooster)

(3) What breeds do you have?
2 Black Australorps 1 Speckled Sussex 1 Light Brahma 1 Salmon Favorelle

(4) How did you find out about BackYardChickens.com?
I've know about BYC for ages now, just haven't joined up until now.


We had a recent hatch of 3 little babies. 2 eggs from a friend's flock, and 1 egg of our own. This one appears to be a Salmon Favorelle/Lavender Orpington cross and she has a problem with one leg. She can't (or won't) stand on it. The toes don't appear to grip and I don't know if a splint or something might help her. I fear she won't be able to make it in the flock if she is limited like this.

Any suggestions?
