Hello and my new insta-flock!

Thanks so much for all the welcomes, everybody! This is precisely the kind of site that makes the internet so amazing -- the ability to converse with and pool knowledge and information with people you've never even met, worldwide. It's really wonderful.

I keep leaving a small clutch of eggs in one of the nesting boxes, hoping one of the girls will take the point. I just rotate them in and out to make sure the supply (both nest and kitchen) is fresh. No takers yet, darn it!

Hi and :welcome from Ohio. So glad you joined. Good looking animals. Don't feel bad, I have 11 hens, five boxes and they only use two of them, sometimes I will find all 11 eggs in one box. :he

Thanks so much, chicken mom! I know, it's like "WHY did I bother with the other three?" (I say, glaring at them accusingly. They peck and scratch, completely unconcerned.)

How do you like your Welsummers? I think they're beautiful birds. I kind of want to expand my flock somewhat, but as a new chicken owner I'm still a little nervous about raising chicks/pullets separately and then trying to integrate them into a longstanding flock. Much as I would like just a few more eggs every day (and a few more feathery beasties running around the yard), this bunch does so well together and is so well-behaved I'm thinking maybe I better not mess with it. I keep hoping one of the girls will go broody, and I can stick a few eggs under her!

(Guess I mentioned that already, huh?
