Chirping
I have previously read many articles here and believe this to be a great source of information. I started with chickens about 1 year ago with 8 chickens, we only have 3 of those 8 remaining due to predators. We also adopted 11 chickens from a friend who could no longer keep them and have added 6 baby chicks about 4 weeks ago.
My flock now consist of 1 Java, 2 Rhode Island Reds, 11 Barred Rocks - all grown and laying eggs. The 6 chicks consist of 4 Sapphire Plymoths and 2 Olive Eggers.
They are all free range (except for the baby's) and are fed Organic egg layers pellets. I have seen the impact feed can make on the chicken and the eggs and only want the best for the chickens as I know Happy Hens lay great tasting eggs.
We live in Northeast Texas in a small rural community of 3500 people. We of course are getting way more eggs than we can eat and have begun selling our eggs at the local farmers market. I have enjoyed very much taking care of the chickens and continue to learn a lot about them.
My reason for joining was to ask a few questions and join in the conversations on the forums.
