Good Morning All,

I'm so thrilled to have found BYC....I am a brand new chicken owner. I have 4 chicks...I really don't even know what kind they are. One is 3-4weeks old and the other 3 are 2-3 weeks old. I have recently purchased a coop and now I am hearing that I will need nesting boxs in order for them to lay eggs in the future. Any tips or advise on getting inexpensive chicken supplys?
I am in Camarillo California.
Thanks, I look forward to learning lots and lots.

Hello and welcome to BYC! You can get plenty tips in the Coop section, lots of creative DIY'ers here! And if you post pics of your chickens we may be able to tell you what they are. Enjoy the site!

from West Virginia! I went to the local farmers market and got some wooden boxes that produce came in. Kinda like what apples used to come in before they started putting them in cardboard boxes. I haven't had a chance to put them in my coop yet, but I'm hopeful I can do that Friday afternoon after work. Be sure to explore the entire site. There is a lot of great information on here!!

Welcome to the coop!

I've used empty cat litter buckets as great nesting boxes...just cut an opening out of the lid, fill with wood chips...and you are ready to go! Others have used old dresser drawers, leaky buckets...there are all kinds of inexpensive nesting boxes out there..just use your imagination :)
