(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
Had chickens years ago. Now I am just helping ducks.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
Sadly none. Although one day I hope to again but stuck in more urban setting unsuitable.
(3) What breeds do you have?
I had just brown shavers, barred plymouth rock and black plymouth rock
But when it comes to helping care for ducks it is just mallard (although in future I would love to try to work towards muscovy)
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
Happy settled chooks who enjoy the environment they are in.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
tech, tech, games, used to be hiking & martial arts
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
Small family now with disabilities (MD, EDS, Autism etc). We have mobility disorders & often suffer injuries but we would do anything, push through any pain for our family; inclusive of pets & animals. E.g. just spent 3k on traveling over 19hrs (there and back again on the road) to get our kitty the vet hyperthyroid treatment not available in our city. Kitty is all cured now but we immediately would do anything if it happened again. Sadly poultry & waterfowl vets are even rather then hens teeth, far rather then cat & dog vets. So not only may there be none available in the city, half the country may have no specialist or exotic vet available to the public.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
For a long time when I had chickens I was keenly looking to prevent, reduce risks, diagnose & treat conditions, and ensure good health & adequate recovery. I had been looking at a lot of poop photos at first (as you chook lovers will understand), and had been looking for good sources of experience in poultry behavoural responses.
But now I have a severely injured duck I took in today which I will be looking to add to my knowledge of what to do and desperately could use any advice.
