Hello! I recently adopted a few new chicks from Rural King. Does anyone have an idea what breed and gender these are?

The lighter (two photos) was labeled either partridge or Mille Fleur bantam Cochin. And the darker (two photos) was labeled bantam silkie.

Thank you!

You have a Partridge Cochin, and a Easter Egger. No Silkie, sorry. Feed stores are known for mislabeling things.....
Please post pics of their combs at six weeks. (I don't know how old they are in these pics)

Thank you! I think they are approximately 4-5 weeks here. (Definitely 4 weeks. I'm not sure exactly how old they were when we adopted them.) I was thinking that it was mislabeled. (S)he had wing feathers super early and doesn't have a fifth toe or black skin. Either way, super cute and sweet. Her name is Juniper. (I'm hoping she's a her!).

Thank you on the confirmation of Partridge Cochin. I was leaning toward that as well, but when I google image them, there are so many different colors! I'm also hoping that she is a she. Her name is currently Daisy. I've been trying to google tips on sexing them as well - but haven't found any solid advice. The comb seems to be tiny and not reddening. I don't know if that's significant for this breed or not. Oh - something I did notice is that it has more feather development on the upper back - but, again, I'm not sure if that's significant or if it's just how this breed feathers. This is our first Cochin.

Thanks again for your reply! I appreciate it!

The first two are Partridge Cochins
The bottom two are not silkies. Perhaps EE?

Hello @theuncarvedblock and :welcome we are so glad that you have decided to join our flock! :jumpy

Thank you! Any guesses on gender??

And Thank you! I've been visiting the site for about two years now. Today is the first time I've asked questions. Thank you for your reply!

Post pics of their combs at six weeks for gender. That is when the cockerels combs start reddening.

Both look like pullets. If they were cockerels, they would have much larger combs by now.

Thank you! I'm hoping that they're both ladies! I haven't noticed any reddening so far - and those photos were taken last week. I am a bit concerned about Daisy's (the cochin) behavior though. She has a bit of a bad attitude and kicks the others. I don't know if that's a sign that she may be a he... or if she just has a bit of a bad attitude.

(The silver laced wyandotte does this as well.)

I can't speak for all cases, but I have had many, many orders of pullets over the years and they've always been a little feisty with one another. In fact, my current pullet picks fights with my cockerel.
Pretty sure it's a pecking order thing. She is a little bigger than the cockerel, so she probably thinks she can boss him around.

I hope that's what it is! The silver Laced Wyandotte and the Cochin are a bit spicy!

I also got a barred rock and she is SO sweet. She's going to be super bummed when she can't fit in my hand anymore. She runs over to the door and waits for me when I come into the room.
