I just joined and thought I'd say hi to all. I have 28 chickens, 3 ducks and a pair of wood ducks. Earlier this year, I brought a hatchery surprise so I'm trying to figure out what some of my chickens are. I had planned on selling the extras however that is proving to be harder than first thought. They are too interesting. I just put my pairs in separate pens today. I'm planing on incubating chicks from them in about a month. The pairs I have are Silver Spangled Hamburg, Buttercup, Cochin, Rhode Island Red and an unidentified pair I'm suspecting is either Old English or Cubalaya. These reason I'm unsure is because I have some peckers and their tailfeathers are gone.
I have the culprits detained however and they are not enjoying chicken jail in the least. I have other rare pullets but without the roosters. My favorite is the Mottled Houdan pullet closely followed by the Cuckoo Murans. The Wood Ducks are really interesting but since this is a chicken site I'll refrain from duck talk.
I believe next year will be an interesting year with the chickens...
If you post some pictures of your "unidentified" chickens, we can help you figure out what they are.
Duck talk is allowed on BYC, like others have said. (People talk about all kinds of birds and animals here; there are different areas for those discussions). The Wood Ducks sound really interesting! I know they nest in holes in trees in the wild. What do you do for them in captivity? Will they use a sort of nest box like the chickens?
Welcome, you are new, many here talk duck! It is always best to talk duck with pictures! What an assortment; I see many coops in your future, and a couple incubators. No charge for the psychic reading. LOL
