I am a first timer with ducks and chickens. When I bought my flock I was told I had all female chickens but the ducks were not sexed. I did not know what kind of ducks they were. I was told they are chocolate runners. I got them from my local tractor supply store May 2nd. How can I tell if they are male or female? They all sound they same loud and I don't see any tail fethers turning up yet.

Hi, welcome to BYC!!!

Those aren't chocolate runners. I have a chocolate runner right now and it is almost black, and stands upright. I'd say you have khakis, maybe. Keep an eye out for curled tail feather, irredescent head, and mounting of other ducks.
If you got them on May 2, they were probably born around April 28, which is nearly the same day as mine. None of mine have developed any of the above signs I mentioned. Too young still.
I guess only time will tell.

I agree they are NOT runner ducks. I don't know much about ducks but, I have seen videos and photos of runner ducks. As the previous responder has said, they are very upright (vertical) . I don't know what breed yours are - they look very healthy. You can post photos on the "Duck thread." and the folks should be able to ID them for you.

Thank you for the info. My chickens and ducks share the same coop and pen. But thinking about letting the out to run free range during the day. I have several hundred acres of wooded land behind me and several ponds. I have been told that letting the roam free I might have issues getting them back in the pen or coop in the evenings at night to keep the safe from other wildlife.

Can someone help me out. I am a 1st timer with chickens and ducks and I found this great forum that I have learned about different things with your help by reading through the forum but I am having trouble finding out how to post something to ask. The only way I found is to reply to my first post. Please guide me or tell me where I can search or read to post questions. Thank you.
