Hello BYC Members, From new chick mom from VA

Hello All~

I am a new mom to 5 baby chicks. We also have 2 cats, 4 hermit crabs and 2 human kids I am fairly new to chickens. I started this process by caring for my grandfathers grown Rhode Island Reds. He became ill and sadly passed last month. I was hoping to learn all of his knowledge about chickens before I started on this journey. BYC is full of great knowledge and I am so happy to find a place that I can turn to for information and others personal experiences. Looking forward to getting to know this group!

Welcome to BYC. Sorry for your loss. Do you plan on keeping his chickens in memory of him?

We do plan on keeping a few of his. The others will be going to my Aunts house so we can visit them as often as we want. I would love to be able to keep all of his but I had already ordered 13 from Meyer Hatchery. He has 14 RIR and 1 Roo. I just don't have the space for all of them
