Hello everyone! My name is Pam and I am from Connecticut.
For about 2 years my husband and I have been talking about having a chicken coop. Our friends had one and now my neighbors started theirs last year and get to take care of them from time to time when they vacation. So I have been doing a lot of hands on with the "Boka Chicks". I have learned so much with them and doing research on a daily now. I am looking forward to getting my chicken coop soon and have it up and running for Spring 2016!!! Our plan is to start with 6 pullets but not absolutely sure on the breeds. I look forward to meeting new people on here and would greatly appreciate any feedback.

Thank you in advance...

Hi Pam, welcome to BYC!

If you would like some help figuring out the best bird fit for you, take a look at this article in the Learning Center:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/...cken-guide-to-picking-backyard-chicken-breeds
There are several factors to take into account and the article does a good job walking you through them, and has breed suggestions.

Actually, the entire Learning Center is full of informative articles on all sorts of poultry topics and is really helpful.

If you have questions, feel free to ask. There are a lot of helpful members here and a ton of information.

Thanks for joining us!

Welcome to BYC, Pam. Glad you decided to join our flock. Murray McMurray has an excellent "chick selector" tool at https://www.mcmurrayhatchery.com/chick_selector.html to help determine which breeds are best for you. Just be sure and click on "show more characteristics." Even if you don't purchase your birds from Murray, the chick selector is still a valuable tool. If you haven't done so already, definitely check out our Learning Center at https://www.backyardchickens.com/atype/1/Learning_Center. There is loads of useful information there. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in getting your flock.
