Hi, I'm Mel. We have had chickens for a year on a 1/4 lot in North Phoenix (no HOA). We have 15 total at the moment, 7 full-size, 2 bantams, and 6 chicks. Since starting we've ended up with 2 roosters (rehomed) and 2 deaths over the winter (White Rock and Gold Star). We have a Chantecler, a Red Star, a Black Star, a Japanese Bantam, a Cochin Bantam and 4 Easter Eggers that are laying. Our chicks are a mix of Black Giants, a blue star, Easter Eggers, and a New Hampshire red.
I love the eggs, but I also love the bond I've created with my girls. My Chantecler, Chickadee, will walk up and squat, waiting for me to love her. I also love to read and gobbled up many books about chickens before finally convincing my husband to get chickens.
I've been reading posts from the BYC forum since I started doing research on chickens! Finally made the plunge to join when I realized we may have to re-locate (unexpectedly) to Dallas soon and would love to hear from others who may have moved their chickens or even where in the Dallas area I can live with my chickens.
Thank you for this great community!
