Welcome to Wolfhaven Farms! No wolves, just fluffy butts, but I’d have them if I could. LOL

(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

We started our flock in 2020 during the Pandemic. My daughter and her family were house hunting and then the calamity hit. So they were living with us and we needed EGGS! (And toilet paper and paper towels, and sanitizer…) Seven in the house was 5 too many for just a dozen.

Now my daughter is starting her first flock this year. We’ve raised them (and our new additions) while they got their new babies home ready. My oldest granddaughter does 4-H now, at her mother’s house, and she and I have become the chicken pros teaching my daughter and the other kids how to train your tiny raptors.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Well, the city says I can have 10. My coop says I can have 11 (would have been 12 but one hen was a traitor and became a roo!)

(3) What breeds do you have?

Light Brahma, Welsummer, Black Austrolorp, Easter Egger, Barred Rock, Olive Egger, and our new ones are TBD. Not sure we got what we chose, so I’ve posted some pics elsewhere for help identifying them. We lost three early this spring to a predator that somehow got in the run. We never did find out how. So we had 9, I only needed a couple more….

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

ALL the colors of eggs and birds! The variety and temperaments are so much fun.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

Been with my partner for 12 years and we have a blend of ages with our kids and grandkids (and his g-grandson). We also have two dogs, a lab and a rescue. Love to ride motorcycles and enjoy the scenery.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

I found BYC the year we started our flock. So I’ve been lurking for years. Finally joined because I wanted some help with our new “mystery” hens (WHAT did we actually buy?!) and I love all the tips. Felt like it was time to share a little back.
