Hi there everyone!
Though I am new to BYC, I have owned chickens for 10 years, and have been showing for 9 years. Just thought I would introduce myself. I recently moved, and now that I have space, I have begun breeding many different breeds and varieties. My birds are all pets before show birds, and spoiled as can be! I currently have about 60 chickens total. For my show birds, I strive to perfect my them to breed standards, as well as variety standards. Current breeds/varieties that I have are:
Bantams:
Citron Spangled Hamburgs
La Fleche (Black, Blue, Splash and White)
New Hampshire Reds
Modern Games (Lemon Blue, LB Splash, etc.)
Red Pyle Dutch (not accepted by ABA/ APA... yet...
)
Mille Fleur D'Uccles (I am trying to improve Mille color as a whole, though mine are decently colored. I am quite picky about my Mille color, though. I want a dark orange/brown base color, not light whatsoever, and small pattern or dots, as way too many bleach out after a few years. I had a hen that was shown and Grand Championed until she was 7 years old, Muffles, who looked like this and I have her photo everywhere to remind me what to strive for.)
Silkies and Showgirls (White, Black, etc.)
Black Mottled and Blue Mottled D'Uccles
Pyncheons in both Mille Fleur (standard color) and Porcelain
More coming soon....
Large Fowl:
Black Sex-Links (only have one pair to make these, though)
Swedish Flower Hens (Mille Fleur and Blue Mille Fleur)
More coming soon...
I also have many birds that are at the moment not breeders, such as my 'Old Ladies', the originals of the flock (yes, I have a few ten year old birds
). My family and I own MisFitz Farm, hence the username. Though most of our birds are show quality and breeders, we just can't resist helping anything that's... well... a misfit! We don't breed our misfits, but all our animals are loved the same and unconditionally. Every one has a name, even all the chickens! We also have 4 goats, rabbits, Royal Palm turkeys (which I may also show), a dog, 2 cats, and a Call Duck named Allester. Sorry for the mini-book of a post! Hehe! Thanks for reading and if you want to contact me about my birds feel free! Have a nice day!
