We are new to chickens and in process of building our coop. We have an order for 10 day old Buckeyes that we'll get in a month or so. Being from Ohio and HUGE Ohio State fans is going to make it really hard to convince people less familiar with chickens that we didn't pick them based on the name. My wife likes that they are a heritage breed that was started/influenced by a woman. We also like that they seem to be friendly as we have two young helpers in this effort (2 and 5 year olds). There certainly appears to be more pretty breeds as well as more prolific layers. But all said and done, we hope this is a great learning experience for us and that we get great eggs to boot. Thank you to everyone that has posted something to this site as I have read a LOT and learned a lot in the process.
