Greetings to you all from Washington state. We live on just under 9 acres. My spouse and I are retired. We share the chickens as a hobby. But I also have my music and my spousal unit has his boat.
I've had chickens for several years. Right now we currently have only 3 aging layers left. We recently added some cute little orpington, our favorite, chicks. Our coop, plus another temporary coop, were attacked by a bobcat that took out all but one of the chicks plus a layer. This was so sad for us. We had made our coop coyote proof and in the 28 years we have lived here, we never saw any other threats until this bobcat arrived and killed one of our layers from outside the coop and then proceeded to take out most of the young ones in a temporary coop. In the process of rebuilding our flock, we have beefed up the wire now that we know we have other predator neighbors. Good news is a new and larger coop is planned.
Looking forward to this journey on BYC!
