Hello All!
My name is Wendi, and I am new to chicken keeping. I got my first chicks about 6 weeks ago. I have what is supposed to be a black Silkie and a Black Copper Marans. After looking over several websites and many photos, I am wondering if the silkie is a 'blue' instead.
Yesterday I bought 9 more chicks from the local feed store, and they are supposed to be:
3 unknown breed straight run Bantams
2 white Leghorns (female)
4 Araucanas (female)
However, 2 of the 'Araucanas' clearly have tails, so I think something is amiss here, after all my research......no problem, they are cute anyway.
My husband's fishing buddy is wholly responsible for my newly found interest in chicken keeping. He is like a grandpa to us and has taught us a lot of things about a lot of stuff, and we just love him dearly. The day I got the first 2 chicks I was with Michael... I just went with him to a local weekend farmer's market because he was wanting more chickens, and just guess who came home with chicks!!!! LOL, I'm hooked now!
I live in northeastern Florida, and I have 4 children and 3 grandchildren. My youngest child (Noelle, 12) is Autistic, and she is very interested in the baby chicks!
My other hobbies are summer shrimping in the St John's River, stone cutting, and riding my 4-wheeler. (Michael is also responsible for the shrimping and the 4-wheeler LOL)
I really like BYC, have learned a lot already!!
