i have been following this site for some time and decided to become a new member. chickens/fowl are not new to me as i grew up on a farm and hatched everything in site. i had chickens, ducks, geese, turkeys. nothing funnier than a turkey with a clutch of baby ducks running around the farm or nothing as disasterous as a mother duck teaching her baby chickens how to swim. i took a 20 year break from birds and am now currently back with my addiction. I found a trio of black copper marans at an auction and got them at a steal of a price. last week i hatched 25 of them and yesterday one of the 2 hens i have came off her nest hatching 8 more. currently trying to get second hen to brood so i can stop my incubator addiction which has 12 more of the darkest eggs set. i thought the marans were impossible to hatch until i quit listening to people on this site talking about high humidity and noticed one lone poster talking about dry hatch. trust me this one person was dead right. i farm but i live in town, and no i will not be keeping any in town since they will be happier free ranging on the farm.

Welcome to BYC. As you have discovered regarding chickens, for every rule there is an exception and no one is infallible. Still BYC is a great resource and I'm sure will enjoy being a member.

Glad the dry hatch method worked for you. People is very dry climates may not fare so well. Different strokes for different yokes - I guess.
