Following the advice of multiple FAQ and posts on here, we called the local Post Office (suburbs of Pittsburgh) in advance after placing the order thru MyPetChicken.com.

We were notified the shipment was in transit on Monday and got the phone call 9:45am on Tuesday to come pick them up!

So, the adventure begins!

2 Golden Buff Red Star
2 White Leghorn
3 Barred Plymouth Rock

Construction on the coop is moving along well, we have the frame and roof finished. Still have to build the hen house and put all of the hardware cloth in, obviously! However, we should have enough time to finish up by the time they are ready to move out of the brooder.

I look forward to updating this post with stories and information, perhaps it will help someone else as much as it has helped me getting started!

If you have any tips or advice it would be appreciated.

Good luck! My 12 chicks are going to be a month old tomorrow. It was so exciting to go to the Post Office at 7AM and hear them peeping through the door. I am amazed at how fast they grow. They are no longer the cute balls of fluff. They are really feathering out and developing personalities. When I am in town doing work I frequently think of them. They quickly become an important part of your life.

I am ordering my coop materials tomorrow and should be ready when they are 6 weeks.

Have fun with your girls!

How unbelievably adorable! Glad your MPC babies arrived safely! Mine were shipped from MPC on Monday, but haven't made it to Texas yet. Hope mine look as wonderful as yours.

Thank you! I was pretty nervous, turns out they shipped from Mansfield, OH - which is only a couple hours from Pittsburgh. With the high temps the last few days up here , I honestly didn't know what to expect and feared the worst.

They were extremely lively right out of the box!
