I trained both my inside only hounds to watch my chickens because I already had them.They were 3 yrs old. It took about 6 months for them to get used to the chickens and 2 yrs to train them. I never free range my chickens unless one or both are out so they can protect them.Dogs are excellent predator deterrents once they're trained
