(1)Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
~ I started my chicken journey less then a year ago. Around March 2023 I hatched my first eggs, unfortunately Two out of the 8 Hatched and 1 survived out of 8.
The one that did survive is named Five (from her egg number) and it just stuck. Went to tractor supply to get her a flock of her own breed, but again was super unlucky because out of the 7 straight runs, All 7/7 were Male. We still have 1 of them, named Lance, ended up getting 5 more Pullets a little later.
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
7 Chickens in total. We also Own two ducks, one Male named Salt and one female named Pepper.
(3) What breeds do you have?
(Chickens) Rhode Island Red, Dominique, Barred Rock, Midnight Myran // (Ducks) Coyuga & Peking
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I honestly didnt think ide love chickens as much as i do, One in particular 5, beacus shes the first that i hatched/ watch hatch. You can also tell they have such individual personality's. Five goes bonkers for meal worms. Owning brids for the first time has been fun and interesting journey of life and death. Also the feeling of being so happy for them when they start laying eggs, sometimes they really surprise me how many they lay!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I like to play games, build things, we actually built the chicken coop from some plans i drew up and the duck house out of wood pallets. I also do some sewing and other making things outta fabric.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I live in a very odd household with my BF, with 3 other guys and a girl. 6 total. Myself and another one of my housemates loves animals so we have 3 dogs in total, he has a huge Salt water tank in the living room, a rosey boa , but lost his Axolotls this year.
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I really love my birds and wanna know how to learn to take better care of them and maybe if i have a question or even anwsers to others questions ide love to be able to put in input. Also be able to compliment others beautiful birds!
