(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I am fairly new, but my partner has always raised chickens.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Around 45, including new chicks.

(3) What breeds do you have?

Thai birds mostly, a small flock of Sumatras, and some Easter Eggers.

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

I'm a nerd and love learning about genetic mutations. The eggs are nice too. :)

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

At the moment the birds are pretty much my entire life, but I used to do more outdoor adventuring and socializing.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

My partner and I also have two dogs. I am not currently working but I would like to pursue an MS in avian science with an emphasis in genetics, nutrition, and organismal biology. My partner is an arborist, among other things, self-employed.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

I found BYC through various chicken-fact googling, originally quite a while ago and off and on again since.
I decided to join after finding this thread: https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/standard-of-perfection.623070/

Nice to meet ya'll. :)

A nerd whose life revolves around chickens? What a great new member of BYC you are!

I had dreams of going to an auction today, but it looks like the temps will be so hot that I would spend the whole time worrying that my poultry was overheating. Vacations? Nah. Those don't happen anymore. All trips to town happen very early in the morning, before the heat sets in -- which is too early for some of my favorite stores to open. My idea of socializing is to sit on the little concrete bench that faces the coops and watch chickens, ducks and geese.

Yup, you are definitely in the right place! I hope you get to pursue that degree; sounds like you would put it to good use.

Welcome to BYC! Please stay in touch.
