Hello donut peck at my toa

Do lots of research first and make sure you can provide them safe and happy lives. And they will give you the most yummy eggs you have ever eaten. Just make sure you are willing to do the work so they can give you what you want. This is a good place for research. I would think about how many chickens you want or can have, check to see if you can have or want a rooster in your area. and go to the forums and start looking up coops, runs, feeding, breeds of chickens, etc. When you feel you have enough information to start making a decision, then begin. I did 5 years of research before I got my first chicken and found I still had lots to learn. You never stop learning with chickens, but they also bring you peace as well as eggs. Good luck.

They hang in my urban backyard during the day, and are locked up tight against critters at night. I had to convince hubby first, hence the long research period. Plus we were moving to a new house and I wanted a house with a yard for my chickens. LOL

Check the coop forum on this site. There are many made of old pallets, old wooden fenceing, which are free, we used limbs cut from a large oak tree in our front yard for roosting poles. It doesn't have to be costly to make a good coop. There are also forums on runs, although we just let ours have the run of our back yard and sometimes take them for walks in the front yard. We have a large lot for the middle of the city. 165' x 122' , probably small compared to country, but it works for our hens. They find lots of bugs, worms and lizards to eat as well as treats from the kitchen to supplement their layer feed. Would love to see the pictures of you chickens.
