(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?

I am not new to chickens. I have had chickens for 4 years and turkeys for 2 years. However I have never had any sick or unhealthy chickens or birds thank God. But I do crave knowledge on taking better care of them other than feeding and watering.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

Right now none, but I do have 12 in the incubator that will hatch next month. I have incubated with success many times.

(3) What breeds do you have?

Polish chickens in the incubator!

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

non bleached eggs. All natural as God intended our food to be.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I love being a mother of a 8 year old daughter, crochete and sew and sing. My Turkeys and chickens love for me to sing to them.

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

I have a boyfriend of 2 years, a 8 year old daughter, 4 cats, a pit bull, and a great dane, oh and a fish.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community? :D

I was googling to find out how to help my Turkey and found this website. I have already found alot of good information here. I am so excited and eager to learn all I can about chickens, but mainly Turkeys as they are my favorite Pet.
 
My 2 year old great dane mauled my hen turkey 4 days ago. Almost all her feathers were ripped out and meat with them. She has some puncture wounds from being bit. I have cleaned her brought her inside and kept her in the bath tub. I have put prescription antibiotic ointment on her wounds, but the first 2 days I kept honey on her wounds. Now she has some wounds that have a green color to them. I am afraid she has an infection. I am going this evening to tractor supply to get injectable penicillin but I do not know how to give her the injection what size needle or how much. If anyone could please help me I would really appreciate it alot. Thank you so much.
