We are new to Backyard chickens we have three red Rhode Island chickens and we also have one white silkie rooster very loving Birds we've never had any problems with them we've had them for a year since babies and we also have a small Pomeranian female dog who has always gotten along with the chickens when they're out free-ranging but the last day they have attacked my dog 2 times and I'm not sure why my dog runs away and puts her tail down and doesn't try to fight back but they keep jumping on her back and pecking her not the rooster just the three hens is there a reason why this would happen, any helpful information would be wonderful and appreciated, we love all of our chickens and our dog so I'm not sure how to handle this.

Hi and welcome to BYC. I'd say D/Diva's advice is the best that you can do.

Best wishes

Welcome!

Wow, I have read countless stories of dogs attacking chickens but never the other way around .. your poor little Pom!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun. Unlike non chicken loving friends, family and colleagues, BYC’ers never tire of stories or pictures that feature our feathered and non feathered friends

That is a different spin on the story we usually hear (where the dog attacks the chickens). Maybe they've decided the Pom is at the low end of their pecking order...no matter, keeping her away from the chickens would probably be best before one of the hens hurts her.
