My name is Angie and I started my chicken farm this spring. I have 33 birds in my flock. I have light brahmas, polish, black star, araucana, ameraucanas, silkies, isa brown, rhode island red, guinea fowl and 2 khaki campbells. We have 3 coops. One large one for the main flock. Silkies (and one easter egger) have their own coop (and do not free range). The ducks have their own house with a covered run and also do not free range. The rest of the birds are free range. We have about 5 roosters. We just started our flock in April and are new to all of this. I love my birds, but I have been stalking these forums for a few months looking for answers to all my many questions! Time to join!

Hi Angie, welcome to BYC!

You have a nice mix of birds, they must keep you busy!

Have you checked out some of the many helpful articles in the Learning Center? They cover a wide range of poultry topics:

Feel free to ask questions or jump in with stories & pictures of your birds.

Nice to have you join us!

Oh yes. I've been learning alot reading there. I'm currently working to get ready for winter. These birds are definitely keeping me busy! They have been rather expensive to start up too! Anxiously awaiting my eggs! I'm thinking mid-August will be the earliest I will see any eggs. We plan to process some of them this fall. I am having trouble choosing who will feed my family this year. I love them all! We also have one blind barred rock. She is rather skinny. I haven't found any posts on that issue yet, so I may be posting soon. Her name is Betty and we all love her, so I can't decide if we should have her in the processed group or not. :( Hard to think about, but I can't eat grocery store meat any more after learning what I am eating. Thank you for the warm welcome!

oh...and how could I forget? I bought 2 welsummers so that I could get chocolate eggs. Well...they both are roos! Oh well! Nice roos!

Welcome to BYC, Angie. Glad you decided to join our flock. A lot of us were lurkers before joining. :o) You have a handsome son. Thanks for posting the pic. Raising chickens is a wonderful experience for children. My children and granddaughter (pictured in my avatar) loved our chickens and made lap pets of our calmer and more gentle breeds. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Welcome to the Backyard chickens flock - glad you joined us. Ah yes, the "rooster problem," too bad you can't flip a switch and turn them into pullets.
