I looking forward to learning new tips as well as refreshing my memory on raising chickens. We have done it before some years back and are trying it again. I have read that it isn't good to feed your chickens too much scratch. Years ago when we had ours we would free range them and the only thing else we would feed them was scratch. What are your thoughts about feeding them? Thanks for your answers!

Hi and welcome to BYC. Whilst opinions may very in terms of feed / treats etc, i personally feed my free range flock commercial layers feed, and keep any treats (only millet actually) to a handful a day. I understand that the "recommended" feed system is proprietary feed and anything less than 10% of their total daily consumption.

I hope that you enjoy your chicken-keeping renaissance.

All the best

you've received good advice. I believe you should feed scratch only as a special treat and the rest of the time just commercial chicken feed. Good luck to you.
