Hi,
my name is Alex. My family and I leave near Decatur IL, and we got 2 speckled sussex pullets who are about a month old. We are new to having backyard chickens, some of our family's in teh area do have chckens. But they have more land availabe than we do in a small town. Our goal is to build a big enough coop before the fall, and big enough for 6 chickens.

This is a great place for you to go on, have fun, and learn about chickens. Well that is a great coop and judging by you only having 2 and want a coop for 6 I am excited for your new additions soon. If you did not already know your chickens will start laying in 5 months when they are around 6 months old. I have some links I want to leave you because based on your intro I think they would benefit you.

The Learning Center is the only one I will explain, but if you only have time for one make sure you check this one out it is the best source on here for learning. The rest are other ones that couold benefit you if you ever have trouble in that specific are while the Learning Center is more broad.

So glad you could join our community!

You have been left lots of great links to follow, so I will just welcome you to our flock! :)

Thank you, I definitely will check out all the great links. Friend of ours will give us his coop, he lost his chicks due to a predator. And I can keep more then 6 hen's. Ssshhh, haven't told that my hubby yet lol. So all we have left to do is improve the coop and add a run. We have 2 dogs, one doesn't even care about them and the other is more curious about them.

Hi Alex and welcome to our community - glad that you have joined us.

Best wishes
