Hello! I'm Becci and I'm from Poole in the UK!
We are new to chicken keeping, although we've done lots of research since first deciding to get chickens over a year ago! Any tips or advice gratefully received though as there is bound to be things we've forgotten or didn't know to think about! BYC has already been very helpful!
We have 7 chicks, slightly different ages. 2 Polands and the rest Pekins, 2 lavender, 2 salmon and 1 black one (the smallest but with the most character!) Unfortunately 4 others didn't make it, dispite our best efforts.
They seem to be happy all together but we are making sure the smaller ones get some time to the food and water without the bigger ones just to be on the sure they aren't getting pushed out of the way! (although watching them all together they still seem to manage fine!)
Our 3 children (6, 4 &2) are already loving having the chicks and learning how to look after them! They already see them as part of the family so it could be hard saying goodbye to any males! (we don't feel we can keep any, given where we live and the fact that another person nearby apparently had their chickens poisoned because someone got fed up with the cockerel! Don't want to take the risk!)
Looking forward to our chicken adventure!
