I know its silly to be afraid of chickens, and it seems like I have three very sweet hens to start this journey with. Besides, if they do ever turn on me, I'll just send the boyfriend in as a peace offering

I actually just came in from hanging out with them. They seem comfortable with me...and, decided to 'herd' me, and I couldn't really out walk them because I busted my knee. My boyfriend had to rescue me xD

You'll be fine. Chickens peck because they don't have hands. They peck things to discover what they are, food, water, shavings, what's edible and what isn't.

My boyfriend and I literally just got chickens. I'm honestly kind of scared of chickens, but I was raised in a more urban setting, so they're just very different for me.
Anyway, we have three hens, and thankfully have a friend running their own little chicken farm, so I'm not totally in the dark. He actually suggested I come here to learn more about them.

On top of the three hens, we also have four parakeets, two dogs, and six rabbits. So...hi from the city girl learning to play farmer!

Well Welcome to Backyard Chickens guess I have been around them since was kid then did not have them for 35 years now old and have them again but heck they give us great eggs and I sell those we do not eat.. enjoy learn what you can or want but enjoy

So far, I'm enjoying having them. The pecking doesn't hurt as bad as I thought it would, and they all seem to have pretty calm personalities. And, they don't mind me hanging around and just watching them. They actually come over and study me about as much as I do them. I made an offering of home made bread earlier, so I think they're okay with me too
