Hello All,
This is my third year of owning chickens. Last time we had my sister-in-law raise our chicks, but this year we decided to grow our flock and got a few more to raise ourselves.
We have currently have four hens (2 Rhode Island Reds, 1 Silver Laced Wyandotte, 1 leghorn) We just picked up 2 legbars, an olive egger, and 1 Ameraucana that are all about 5 weeks old at the time of writing this. I stumbled across Backyard Chickens on a search looking for an expansion kit for my recently purchased Producer's Pride Defender Coop (With no such luck at this point, I might add.) I don't really have any hobbies at this point, as I have a 5 year old girl and a 7 year old son that take up a large majority of our "free" time. We have two dogs, who have on two separate occasions killed some of our birds. Both times were freak occurrences but a total of 8 birds have been lost to them. I really do enjoy my ladies and can often be found out by the coop just watching them scratch at the dirt. I have plenty to learn and look forward to being a part of this community.
