I am extremely new to chickens. I got my first 5 chicks about 3 weeks ago. I am looking forward to all the advice I can get.
I have 2 golden Comets and 3 Rhoade Island Reds. All Pullets.
I am really looking forward to these gals being pets as well as great egg producers.

My husband and I bought a 20 acre farm about 3 years ago. We don't have children but we do have 12 four legged fur babies.
13 year old great pyr, named Chisos, 12 year old Choco Lab named Yogi, and a 10 year old rat terrier name Pickles. We also have 9 kitties. Gargamel, Nax, Spackles, Pinkey, The Brain, Arrow, Archer, Subfloofer, and Ninah.
We love to garden. We also lend our land to our neighbors 12 cows. We just had our third calf of the spring.

Hi! Welcome to BYC!

I would just like to let you know that you will enjoy having Rhode Island Reds! They are great egg layers and the first ones to start laying in our flock! It sounds like you are going to have happy chickens with all that land. Do you have a coop ready for when they are older? It's good to have one ready.

Also, here is a link if you want to grow some things in your garden that will benefit your chickens: https://insteading.com/blog/chicken-friendly-plants/

Good luck! Having chickens is an exciting, challenging some of the time, but over all fun experience! If you ever have any problems I know a lot of people on here are always willing to help.
