I've been stalking Backyard Chicken posts for a good 2 months now and finally joined today! I'm new to chickens, after "thinking about it" for the last 3 years my son finally pushed me over the edge and begged for some. We started with 4 and after 2 short weeks are up to 9! Where we will stay.... for now...

Thanks to everyone for the helpful advice, you have no idea how nice it is as a newbie!

Did you get chicks, started pullets or hens? What breed(s) do you have?

We got chicks - 2 buff Orpington, 2 lavender Orpington, 2 blue Orpingtons, an Ameraucana, an Ameraucana/favorelle cross and a salmon favorelle! One of the blue Orpingtons is kind of odd ball looking, so that’ll be fun seeing what it grows up to be!

I’m drooling over everyone’s silkie pictures! Hoping next year to get a couple of those.
