My name is Cindy, I live in Shingle Springs, California and I am new to this thread. I’ve been raising chickens for 30 years now and I’m still learning. My current flock are 1 year old 11 Buff Orphington and 2 Black Copper Maran hens and a BO rooster. This is the first time I ever had a rooster
I just ordered first time some chicks online 6 New Hamshire Red they should arrive next month. Not sure what to expect from an online order. I’m also getting ready to purchase 4 French Black copper maran pullets. Both batches of chicks will be 4 weeks apart. In all my years my chicks have been the same age. Any suggestions if I need to separate the chicks in the beginning?

Welcome! I would separate them for sure, the little ones will get trampled.

Hi Cindy! Welcome to BYC! :frow We're happy to have you with us! I would recommend keeping them separate. I've tried keeping different ages in a brooder together before, and 90% of the time it didn't work out. Good luck, and have fun with your new chicks! :)
