Good evening. I am a chicken-mom as well as a mom of 6 kids, 3 dogs, 2 cats, and wife of 1 husband. We are on our third flock of chickens. Originally purchased to be an egg-alternative to the store-purchased kind (I toured an egg farm and vowed to not endorse that horrific behavior), we also fell into the trap of naming our chickens. Therefore, we keep them as long as they live naturally, with our without eggs. Currently, we have 9 chicks and one old hen. I couldn't tell you their breed--we purchased from a local farm and home store this spring (the hen is the type that has feathered legs). Anyway, one of our chicks came to us with a limp--we didn't pay much notice until about a week later (kids were taking care of them while I was finishing school). After an accident that left me without the use of my dominant hand for the past month, I am back in the coop but realized one bird probably has a slipped tendon. Since culling isn't an option, I have been searching for any help in what I can do to help at this late stage in the problem. An internet search (over the course of a week) let me to you. I hope to find options to maximize my chicken's longevity. Thank you to everyone in advance for helping me!
