Hi everyone! So excited to be part of this wonderful and super helpful community. I currently have 9 chickens, just lost 10 to a coyote attack sadly. I also have 6 ducks and one day old duckling in my brooder from my first go at incubating.

My real job, or the job that pays for my bird addiction is firefighting. I find my animals very therapeutic after the stress of a day on the job. I have a 2 year old son who loves to help with the animals and a wonderful husband who enables my addiction to chickens and ducks.

Wishing everyone happy and healthy birds!

I hope that coyote doesn't come back! Unfortunately, once they learn where to get a meal, they often do! I don't know if you have any plans to deter them, but there is a great Predator Forum here that you can search or post in case that wily coyote returns. Welcome to BackYard Chickens!
Thank you! I've read lots of great info on here about predators. Everyone has been locked up in their pen since. They usually free range during daylight hours, but I'm not letting them out unsupervised after a broad daylight attack like that!
